Small Press Expo this weekend!
I'm heading to Maryland for a couple of events this weekend.
I'm a guest artist at the Small Press Expo. And I'm bringing The Wolf with me!
Friday Night in Baltimore:
A night of comic readings and book signings with Marc Bell, Anders Nilsen, Dina Kelberman, Melissa Mendes, Brian Ralph, Noah Van Sciver, and ME!
We'll be signing books and projecting comics and there's even something called the Nerdlinger awards. Come out for a fun pre-SPX party night!
All day Saturday and Sunday I'll be at SPX:
I'll be signing my brand new painted novel The Wolf all weekend.
I'll also have all of my other books and some new prints as well.
I'll be at table H10 with my pal J. T. Dockery.

You can tease an emotional narrative out of the proceedings easily enough — past callousness, cruelty, and self-destruction in the context of a relationship are overcome, atoned for, and healed through sexual connection, and a transcendent future is discovered, a natural world untouched by the taint of the bitter past. But it’s the way each individual stage of that journey is depicted with symbols, colors, and creatures that capture and embody it perfectly
For all the pell-mell of the mindbending plots, the creation of altered states and surreal fantasies would be for nothing, if it were not for the sheer virtuoso talent of both creators. McKean has long been established as a master of multimedia imagery and Celluloid represents possibly his finest work.... It’s all the moreso with The Wolf, though, as Neely deliberately breaks the connection to reality with his visual quirks. When the skinless creature first emerges, he wears the mime-gloves of old Disney cartoons as a telling sign that the rules of reality no longer apply, and we are in the realm of elastic physics. This allows Neely’s expressiveness to play and amplify the world of the story

Stress Free San Diego!
This week is the San Diego Movie Marketing Convention. I'm sitting here drinking my morning tea and reading all the blogs about what's happening at SDCC, and I'm so happy to not have a table this year, it's amazing! (If you wanna read more about why, you can read my post-comicon blog entry from last year.)
HOWEVER, even though I will not have a booth this year, I will be there, and I will have The Wolf with me! Here's how to find me:

I'll probably be mostly hanging out around friends' tables like Grass Hut Gallery (booth 4739) or Patrick Morgan's, or Ed Luce's tables, browsing the indie publishers like Fantagraphics, Drawn & Quarterly and the small press area, digging through longboxes of old horror comics... or maybe even watching the melee tournaments outside.

GOTEBLÜD fan art by Tom Neely. Some of you may already know Ed Luce. Others may know him from his brilliant contributions to the Henry & Glenn Gang Bang art show back in February. The rest of you should get to know him. I'm a big fan of Ed Luce's Wuvable Oaf comics! And especially his character Goteblüd. I love wrestling and I love Satanic characters, so, I had to do some fan-art. And Ed is including mine (and many other great artists) in the "pin-up" section of his brand new Wuvable Oaf #3, which will be debuting in San Diego on June 23rd, followed by a short West Coast Tour. The Wolf is a new graphic novel by Los Angeles-based painter-cartoonist Tom Neely. The book tells a simple love story, but one woven with surrealist horror, werewolf lore and its own brand of nightmare logic. With The Wolf, Neely progresses from the traditional cartooning style he showed off in his previous books, The Blot and Brilliantly Ham-Fisted, to a form that blends comics-style storytelling with a fine arts approach to imagery. The ultimate effect is equal parts touching and chilling.
Neely’s paintings and illustrations have been featured in galleries all over the U.S., in magazines and literary journals, and on records, posters and CDs for bands like The Melvins, ISIS and Wolves in the Throne Room, Groovie Ghoulies, among others. Earlier this year, he garnered a flurry of attention as one of the authors of the cult hit mini-comic Henry & Glenn Forever. Neely’s debut self-published novel, The Blot, won an Ignatz Award in 2007 and made it onto several of the industry’s “best of” lists that year, including “Best Comics of the Decade” in The Comics Journal.
