Stumptown and TCAF and Eagle Rock Mini-con!

I'm heading to Portland this week! And I'm debuting a new book - Henry & Glenn Forever & Ever #1! With new comics and stories by Ed Luce, Benjamin Marra and Me!

On Friday Ed, Benjamin and I are having a release party for Henry & Glenn Forever & Ever #1 at Floating World Comics. Sparkplug Comic Books will also be debuting Katie Skelly's Nurse Nurse! Here's the facebook invite.

Then I'll have a table at the Stumptown Comics Festival all weekend. Sparkplug Comic Books will be there, too!

Next week, May 5th & 6th, I will be representing Sparkplug Comic Books at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival in Toronto.

Also that weekend - Drippy Bone Books will have all of my IWDY books available at their table at the Eagle Rock Mini-comic-con!

see ya around...

Toronto Comic Arts Festival

WINNER: TCAF is the best festival of all!

There are too many reasons... from the organization, to the general atmosphere, to the people... that it's a free show in a public library with open lighting, instead of an expensive show charging admission in a horrible convention center... that everyone gives you respect and makes you feel like a guest, rather than treating you like a junk dealer at a flea market... where the organizers and staff are genuinely interested in promoting all facets of this diverse art form, rather than shutting people out at the whims of someone's opinion as being "too arty", or "too mainstream", or "too amateur", or "too awesome"... where volunteers (some of whom are art students and illustrators interested in what's going on and eager to help out) are there to sit at your table while you're on a panel or bathroom break, and making change for you when you're selling $1 mini-comics and all you have is twenties... where the crowds of comic fans seem endless, and the people there to use the library are also genuinely interested, rather than hordes of braindead fanatics killing time until they get to see the trailer for Avengers or whatever... where every cartoonist behind a table is happy and having a great time because of all of the above!

This is how it's done, son!

Someone give Chris Butcher and Peter Birkemoe and everyone else involved some kind of award!

I just wish all "comic conventions" could be
more like this "Comic Arts Festival."

As a side note... How'd I get cool enough to sit at this table?

Looking forward to next time!

I'm all over the place this weekend...

Three things happening this weekend that I will be a part of...

For those of you in L.A., there is a group show at GR2 called Free To A Good Home 2: DOGS! Along with artwork by great artists and cartoonists like Andrice Arp, Jeffrey Brown, Shawn Cheng, David King, Kiyoshi Nakazawa, John Pham, Aaron Renier, Daria Tessler, Steve Weissman (and many, many more), there will be dogs from local animal shelters available for adoption! So get some new art and a new pet at the same time. Here's my painting for the show:

Floating World Comics in Portland, OR, is having a benefit art show and auction for the hemophilia research center of OHSU. The theme of the show is the X-men character Kitty Pryde. I made a Nancy-esque comic strip based on the X-men #143 comic. You can get posters of artwork from all the different artists for $5. And the original artwork will be auctioned off. Here's my Kitty Pryde:

You can see other artists' Kitty Prydes at this blog.

And finally, I'll be in Toronto this weekend...

I'm exhibiting with my friends Sparkplug Comic Books at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival. I'll have all my books and maybe some prints for sale, too. If you're in or near Toronto come check it out.

Interview

The National Post is doing a series of interviews with cartoonists who will be a part of the 2009 Toronto Comic Arts Festival. Here's my interview.

I also have to highlight an answer from Shannon O'Leary in her interview because I love her answer:

Q: Who are your cartooning heroes and have you ever met them? If so, did you remain calm?

A: We ARE cartoon heroes and are calm in the face of imminent peril generally.

Headin' to Toronto...

I'm going to the Toronto Comic Art Festival this weekend. I'll be tagging along with my pals at Sparkplug Comic Books. I'll be bringing as many copies of The Blot. as I can fit in my bags.

I'm really looking forward to seeing this festival. It's supposed to be really great. And I'm looking forward to seeing Toronto. If you're up in that neck o' the woods, come check it out.
