Update- confusion over this one. When I was working on these,I google image-searched Behemoth, and found a photo that I used for reference. But this doesn't look like Nergal, so I couldn't figure out who it was... Turns out it's a dude from The Furor and the confusion was due to this blog entry about The Furor opening for Behemoth... SO, my mistake and the mystery solved. This is The Furor and they sound pretty good:

Best Comics of the Decade #19

This blog called Only the Cinema has a list of Best Comics of the Decade and The Blot comes in at #19:

Tom Neely's self-published long-form debut, after a string of minicomics and shorter pieces, is a real shocker, coming out of nowhere to introduce a wholly new and exciting sensibility. His cartoony characters and obtuse symbolism add up to a difficult work, slippery in its meanings and intent, that is nevertheless impossible to look away from. With few words and very little narrative, Neely traces the experiences of a cartoon everyman, with a bulbous, rounded head, comically big feet and Mickey Mouse-style gloves, as he is consumed and pursued by an amorphous black inkblot that sometimes appears as small splotches within his white world, and sometimes threatens to flow across the page, consuming everything in its path. Neely presents various encounters between the man, the blot and a woman who sometimes seems to be helping him and sometimes seems fixed on his destruction. The book deals with conformity, creativity, love and humiliation, all through these enigmatic, nearly silent strips where the blot's seeming meaning and purpose fluidly changes depending on context.

This reminds me... I need to raise some money for future publishing projects, so I'm possibly going to be offering some more Blot-related artwork for sale on my blog soon.

GR2 Year of the Tiger?

So, I just finished this piece for the Giant Robot Year of the Tiger show at GR2... But then I notice that they forgot to include me on the postcard or the press release, or any of their online announcements... So, will this piece be on display at GR2 this Saturday?

METAL MAD at GRNY

There's an awesome looking show at Giant Robot New York. It's all Heavy Metal inspired art by a long list of killer artists inlcuding:

Skinner, Brian Ralph, Scrappers, Matt Furie, Kiyoshi Nakazawa,

TOM NEELY (that's me), and many more. They are showing the original artwork for my Wolves in the Throne Room poster, which looks like this minus all the text:

While we're talking about Giant Robot... like most of us in the last couple of years, Giant Robot Magazine has hit hard times. I hate to see any form of print media struggling, but especially a magazine like this that has been so important and supportive of the underground/alternative art and comics scene.
